Computational Design

This was the first Design module , in this module i tried to understand the logics behind the design  hoe to design according to site forces ,context ,
so we started from very basic exercise  by  doing operation on 2D and 3D shapes  in order to achieve  the logic with intent .

after these exercises  we were given 4  sites ,namely Gorai jetty,  Mandapeshwar caves , Borivali east station and Sanjay Gandhi National Park .
all the sites were in Mumbai , my site was Mandapeshwar caves its in IC colony in Borivali west .
exercise 1 was about to achieve the logic or the end result , so we were given some shapes by the faculty to choose to apply the operation , so choose pentagon and the intent was division and attributes were 5 vertices, 5 sides and midpoints of segments  the exercise was how will you achieve pentagon as a result by dividing it beacause the intent was division by full- filling the attributes like it should  have 5 side ,vertices and while dividing at least 1 line should pass from midpoint of segment . as you can see below the hatched pentagon is result by achieving all the above needs.

here it was not about to achieve the exact pentagon its basically deformation .

Mandapeshwar CavesThe name Mandapeshwar roughly translates to the 'hall of the Lord'. They are in Borivali and have a unique history. Dating back to the late 6th and early 7th century CE, they have a beautiful synthesis of different styles and are a fascinating example of co-existence. These lesser-known caves of Mumbai, are a perfect blend of different cultures, traditions, and socio-economic and political dynamics. The caves were initially affiliated with the Pashupata cult and then used by the Portuguese as a Christian chapel during their colonisation of the region. The Mandapeshwar cave complex includes a large hall, several small adjacent cells, a water tank, and a church at the top. There is a beautiful sculptural panel of dancing Shiva and another beautiful panel with some intricate carvings. The caves, although damaged, are a fascinating example of shared identities. Thus, the caves of Mumbai are not just historical monuments but a window into the city's past, through its various religious and cultural influences over the centuries. Some of the lesser-known caves such as the ones at Jivdani, Edvan and Magathane have almost disappeared because of urbanisation, changed affiliations, ignorance, and misuse.

Site observation - When I visited the site, I observed a huge parking lane in front of the Mandapeshwar Caves, which was actually illegal. I asked some locals about it, and they told me that most of the auto drivers live in informal settlements located right in front of the caves. Since they live in slums, they don’t have proper space to park their vehicles. I also noticed that they repair their autos on the footpath because there is no designated space or garage available. They carry their toolkits with them and begin repairing directly on the footpath.

so we started diagraming the site forces ,movements .in this diagram you can see how vehicles are parked thier on site
what i observed is mostly the auto s were parked where road was a bit large or bends this diagram talks about how road swelled out and vehicles parked there .
zooming more on parking of autos i found a relationship of parking auto in direction to edge of foot path .
this is how auto driver sits in auto according to different lengths ,sleeps ,spent time in auto while scrolling on their phones but sit very uncomfortably  in auto
so i analysed a sitting and a angle where they can rest
